Strong E-commerce during Christmas Season 2012

DIBS, the leading provider of payment solutions for e-commerce, announces that sales were strong online during the Christmas season for the 14,000 e-merchants that use DIBS payments solution. During the Christmas season, the value of all e-commerce transactions increased 12 percent compared with the same period previous year.

Nordic consumers have discovered the benefits of shopping Christmas gifts online. During the period November 7 to December 23, the value of e-commerce transactions was 12 percent higher than the same period previous year. The statistics are based on all 14 000 Nordic e-merchants that use DIBS payments solution, including traditional e-commerce but also other organisations selling services online, such as for instance the public sector.

- Nordic e-commerce was strong during the Christmas season, especially in Sweden and Norway. Consumers shop online to simplify their everyday life, save time, compare products, get better prices and to be independent of opening hours, says Eric Wallin CEO of DIBS.

DIBS E-Commerce Index 2012 showed that consumers are optimistic about their e-commerce for 2013. Of the Swedish consumers, 84 percent say that they will maintain or increase their e-commerce on the Internet in 2013. The corresponding figure is 81 percent in Denmark and 77 percent in Norway.
