'Gift of Hearing' by Estes Audiology Goes to Two New Braunfels Residents

January 9, 2011  – New Braunfels, Texas - Estes Audiology (www.HearLifeAgain.com), a professional hearing healthcare provider dedicated to improving the lives of the hearing impaired and their families, announced today that it has chosen two worthy recipients to receive two sets of hearing aids during Estes Audiology’s “Gift of Hearing” holiday giveaway.  This year’s recipients are Shane Machacek, a 10-year-old from New Braunfels and Emmett Henderson, 57 years also of New Braunfels.

Each year, Estes Audiology accepts nominations of worthy individuals who need assistance in hearing and gives away two sets of hearing aids to those who can demonstrate need and how the gift of hearing will impact their lives and the lives of those around them.  Since 2005, Estes Audiology has given away more than 11 pairs of hearing aids to deserving individuals.

"This year, we are grateful to award hearing aids to a young student from New Braunfels who suffered from hereditary hearing loss.  Our other recipient has experienced progressive, noise-induced hearing loss, which has made his work in commercial construction all the more dangerous.  It gives us great pleasure to award this year's 'Gift of Hearing' to such deserving individuals," said Dr. Soriya Estes, founder and owner of Estes Audiology.

Jodi Machacek, a 4th Grade Math, Science and Social Studies from Johnson Ranch Elementary nominated her son, Shane, a fourth grader at Johnson Ranch Elementary.   Ms. Machacek has had hearing loss since a child and only recently found out that this trait was genetic.   A recent visit to the ENT confirmed that Shane too suffered from this hereditary hearing loss.  “We had recently just purchased my first set of hearing aids before Shane was diagnosed.  When we were told that he did in fact need hearing aids, we couldn't afford them for him, as well.  I wished I had known that he needed them before I got mine,” said Ms. Machacek. “The school has been fabulous and found a pair of loaner hearing aids for Shane to wear in class.”  Since his diagnosis and the use of assistive technology, patient teachers and perseverance, Shane has made it into the Gifted and Talented program this year. His mother is confident that he will continue to excel upon receiving the custom hearing devices from Estes Audiology tailored to his specific needs.

Nominated by his wife, Barbara, and his sister-in-law, Jeanie Schroeder, Emmett Henderson is best described as having an easygoing personality, loves life, is a hard worker and has a passion for playing the guitar and music. Mr. Henderson works in the commercial construction industry and because of his severe hearing loss, he is at risk daily if an alarm or co-worker tried to warn him of danger.  "With the receipt of the hearing aids, Emmett will now be safer at work and able to enjoy the every day sounds of conversation, TV, nature and his beloved music.  We are so thankful to Soriya and the staff at Estes Audiology for giving Emmett the gift of hearing," said Mrs. Henderson.

Estes Audiology, a woman-owned professional hearing healthcare provider, was founded by Dr. Soriya Estes, a well-known Central Texas Audiologist and former adjunct professor at the University of Texas-Austin.  Estes Audiology currently has offices in the communities of New Braunfels, Georgetown, and Boerne.  Putting its patients first, employing only the most talented and educated staff, using state-of-the-art measurement tools, and providing the most digitally effective hearing solutions and devices, Estes Audiology is becoming the hearing healthcare provider of choice in Central Texas.
