Estes Audiology Hearing Centers and Sertoma Introduce New Induction Loop Technology to Central Texas
Hard of Hearing Will Now Be “In the Loop” during Georgetown City Council Meetings and at the Georgetown Public Library
April 7, 2011 – Georgetown, Texas – Those in the community that are hard of hearing will now be “in the loop” during Georgetown City Council meetings and two rooms in the Georgetown Public Library (The Hewlett and Friends of the Library Rooms) through the use of new induction loop technology. Generously donated and installed by Estes Audiology Hearing Centers and the Sertoma Club of Georgetown, the installation of the looping system was completed on April 2, 2011. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for April 12, 2011 at 6 p.m. in the Georgetown City Council Chambers.
“With the introduction of looping, wearers of hearing aids will be able to utilize the newest in technology and yes, hear much better,” stated Dr. Soriya Estes, owner and founder of Estes Audiology. “We hope that this initial installation at the Georgetown City Council Chambers and Public Library will be the first of many public facilities implementing looping systems here in Central Texas.”
Induction Loop Technology allows people who use modern digital hearing aids equipped with a telecoil (T-coil) to hear better. When induction loop technology is installed in the form of a sound-transmitting wire, sound is wirelessly transmitted from a microphone, TV, audio player, telephone or any sound system directly into the hearing aid. The hearing aid’s T-coil acts as a receiver allowing the user to hear the sound directly from its source within the looped environment without the interference of background noise. There is no echo or distortion produced by the room and the sound system.
In Europe, induction loop systems are used extensively and are commonplace. Churches, theatres, hotels and libraries - even taxicabs - are looped in most countries throughout Europe.
“The good news about induction loop systems is that everyone can benefit from them and most hearing aids today come equipped with a T-Coil,” said Dr. Estes. “For those hearing aids that do not have a T-coil, many can be upgraded for this feature. The key is to educate the public and ensure that all public places become looped.”

Induction loop technology is superior to other wireless transmission technologies because it produces high-quality sound while alleviating background noise in a large room. In addition, induction loop technology allows one to hear without having to call attention to his/her disability in a public setting. Looping prevents wearers of hearing aids with a T-coil from having to ask for special assistance; from being required to sit in ‘special seating’; or from having to borrow or rent a receiver in order to hear properly.
