Natural & Organic Food - Trade show highlights at Natural & Organic Products Europe 2010
Next month’s Natural & Organic Products Europe, taking place over 11-12 April at London’s Olympia, will feature over 500 exhibitors – including many of the industry’s leading producers and suppliers of natural and organic food and drink. From new product launches to brand innovations and packaging re-designs – the following is just a taste of what show press and industry buyers can expect to see at the UK’s only dedicated trade event for natural and organic products.
Previewing at Natural & Organic Products Europe is Kara Dairy Free, the UK’s first coconut based non-dairy milk. Aimed at consumers seeking a natural, better tasting alternative to dairy free milk, Kara Dairy Free is freshly pressed coconut milk enriched with calcium. Free from artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives Kara Dairy Free has the same characteristics as semi-skimmed milk. It contains just 2% fat, with the added benefits of being cholesterol and lactose free, and contains the richest source of Lauric Acid of any kind of milk. Lauric Acid is a medium chain fatty acid, which is healthier than saturated animal fats and also helps control cholesterol. Bio Planete, the highly regarded producer of the finest organic cold-pressed oils, will be promoting their exciting new rebrand across their entire product range at this year’s show. The brand’s stylish new look is expected to strengthening brand identity, especially within the UK market. There will be three assortment categories or ‘lines’ to fulfil the demand, each easily identifiable by its own coloured sleeve: Classic, Gourmet and Vitality. Rose is renowned for her easy-to-achieve recipes and creative approach to food. With over 50 books published and book sales of over 3 million, she will be cooking with key Essential ingredients in the show’s Organic Kitchen at 3pm on Monday April 12 before joining the Essential Trading Stand 8003 to chat about its products and sign copies of her new book, New Complete Vegetarian. Essential Trading will be showing its new pesto range, Vitam-R yeast extract and sprouting mixes plus its organic tinned pulses in water and organic tinned fruit in organic fruit juice. Heritage Prime return as sponsors of the show’s Organic Kitchen, working with the show’s organiser, Diversified Business Communication (UK) Ltd, to help supply top chefs for the two-day demonstrations. Some of the best selling teas in the UK health food trade will have a new look this spring as Yogi Tea® re-launches all 23 lines within its popular Herbal Tea range; including Yogi Tea Bedtime and Yogi Tea Breathe Deep. Designed to make a greater impact among healthy consumers in the UK the new pack formulations will feature a cup and illustrations of key ingredients, reflecting the core imagery used on Yogi Tea’s much-loved spiced tea selection. Yogi Tea’s fresh approach to packaging provides clear visual presentation of all 23 varieties of the herbal tea range and cements their place within the wider Yogi Tea portfolio that comprises a total of 41 certified organic varieties. Importers and Distributers, Foodsellers have added several new products to their range. Including Nutradia Snacks, which are made from real potatoes, are low in calories, rich in fibres, 100% natural, and have 75% less fat than standard crisps – making them ideal for diabetics, dieters and anyone wanting a great tasting snack. Dreamfields Pasta is also a great tasting, perfect complement to a healthier lifestyle. Featuring in this year’s Natural & Organic Products Europe’s New Product Showcase, it has a 65% lower GI than regular pasta and is a unique recipe that protects all but 5g of carbohydrates/56g serving from being digested, which helps to manage body weight and blood sugar levels. Iceni English Natural Mineral Water – named after Boudicca’s East Anglian tribe is naturally high in calcium and naturally good for you. Hale & Hearty, new wheat and gluten free food champions, are launching their 16-strong product line at this year's Natural & Organic Products Europe. Included in the range are gourmet essentials for the free-from shopper like cereals, gluten free porridge oats, dried pastas, savoury and sweet snacks and an impressive range of baking mixes and unique kitchen store cupboard items like gluten free breadcrumbs, popular with keen or experimental cooks. The company’s NEW snack range includes plain and flavoured breadsticks and a range of three flavoured crisp lines, made from cassava – a tropical root vegetable grown in all four corners of the world. Hale & Hearty has been rated amongst ‘Top 50 Foodie Greats’ by Observer Food Monthly Magazine. Kinnikinnick Foods Inc, North America’s largest producer of Gluten Free bakery items, will make their debut at the show this year. Produced in dedicated facilities in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, all products are tested for gluten and fall into the less than 5 ppm range, which is well below the Canadian standard of 20ppm and the Codex level of 200ppm. The range includes breads, buns, bagels, muffins, donuts, cookies, pizza crusts, waffles and mixes. Since no preservatives are used in any products, all items except for cookies and mixes must be sold frozen. All products are dairy free, nut free, free of trans fats, artificial flavours and artificial colours, and many are vitamin enriched. Fibre and protein are generally added to provide a more healthy, gluten free nutritional experience. Independent cereal company Rude Health will be launching six new cereals at this year’s show, all with no added salt, sugar or junk. Early sales of The Granola, the only multigrain organic granola with puffed amaranth and spelt flakes, suggest this indulgently good-for-you breakfast will become an immediate best-seller. Super Fruity organic muesli – is the lowest priced of Rude Health’s muesli fivesome and is packed with flavoursome fruits and crunchy seeds. And finally, Rude Health will be introducing their revamped, sustainably-produced cereal range including Multigrain Flakes and Puffed Oats. Making its debut at the show is Royal Organic Vegetarian Caviar, which combines the sophistication, luxury and taste of traditional caviar with the health and environmental benefits of being entirely vegetarian. Made from GM-free, organic soy, it’s a unique and very special product. Royal Organic Vegetarian Caviar costs a fraction of the price of traditional fish-derived caviar so can be used in extravagant quantities without breaking the bank. For large scale catering it’s perfect - even experts struggle to distinguish it from traditional forms of caviar. For snacks at home it’s delicious on crackers or toast. As it’s also cholesterol-free, everyone can partake with abandon. Primera Technology Europe will introduce its brand-new LX900e Color Label Printer for high-speed food label production. The LX900e is Primera’s fastest-ever inkjet colour label printer. It produces labels at speeds of up to 4.5” per second – almost 17 times faster than Primera’s best-selling LX810e (for comparable print quality). LX900e is priced at £2000 MSRP. Separate ink cartridges for cyan, magenta, yellow and black keep operating costs low since only one colour at a time needs to be replaced. The semi-permanent print head utilises all-new technology to produce razor-sharp text, brilliant graphics and photo-realistic printing. Typical applications include product labels for coffee, wine, water, bakery, confectionary, meat, cheese and hundreds of other specialty and gourmet foods. TIANA®, the only registered importer and supplier of certified fair trade organic coconut products, will be launching its organic fairtrade extra creamy coconut milk at Natural & Organic Products Europe. Extra delicious and versatile, it is different to most other coconut milks available on the market. TIANA® will also introduce the new fairtrade packaging of TIANA®’s Premium range at the show, which includes highly nutritional cold pressed virgin coconut oil, gluten free coconut flour, milk, cream and irresistible CocoTop. In addition to its fair trade agreements in the Philippines, TIANA® is also engaged in an annual coconut tree planting project in Southern Luzon. Royal Green odourless Coconut Cooking Cream will be officially introduced in the UK at Natural & Organic Products Europe 2010. 100% odourless coconut oil from certified organic farming, baking, roasting, frying and stir frying has never been so healthy. Also suitable as a substitute for butter, it’s rich in lauric acid, and good for the cholesterol. The certified organic coconut oil from Royal Green is a super healthy oil that retains all its good qualities when heated and is ideal to use instead of olive oil. Specifically, as many studies conducted around the world have shown, improvements in eyesight, neurological functions, urinary tract health, and the prevention of cholesterol build up. PON hopes its organic wild blueberry juice will not simply be a health elixir but a rare taste sensation too. PON’s Wild blueberry juice plus many other organic juices, jams, berry snacks, and berry flours can all be sampled at the show. Tideford Organics celebrated its 12th anniversary in 2009 and this true organic warrior has just revamped its logo and product range. Recipes inspired by life and the many travels of their top chefs and made in its Soil Association accredited kitchens in Devon. Spring dishes include organic cook-in sauces, plus a collection of fresh organic soups in three sizes (600g family pots, 300g microwaveable pots with heat proof sleeve, and 2kg catering poly bottles). Tideford Organics has won over 40 major awards around the country for its pestos, soups, sauces and rice puddings. Revised branding that highlights the health messages of Anila’s curry sauces and condiments will be showcased at Natural & Organic Products Europe in April, where the entire range of 8 curry sauces and 16 chutneys, pickles and dips will be on display. The labelling of Anila’s authentic range has been tweaked to emphasise the gluten-free, dairy-free, onion-free and garlic-free nature of her products. The move has been made in response to an increase in demand for Anila’s curry sauces, chutneys, pickles and dips from those with intolerances and allergies. Anila’s sauces are based on traditional Indian recipes, and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. As well as the Spicy Korma Curry Sauce scooping a Free From Food Award last year, Anila’s sauces have also won ten Great Taste Awards. Xylitol UK Ltd are filling a gap in the market with the launch of their new xylitol products, which include four flavours of luscious, country-style jams, three flavours of luxury dark chocolate, ketchup and honey. Xylitol is a naturally-occurring sweetener commonly derived from birch trees. Adagio Teas will be showcasing Anteadote – its organic ready-to-drink iced tea range at this year’s show.
