Al and Tipper Gore are not alone.  A new survey of divorce professionals in the United States and Canada suggests the most common reason for divorces among the over 50 crowd is they no longer have common interests.

The survey, conducted by the Association of Divorce Financial Planners (ADFP) as a prelude to its upcoming conference, also suggested infidelity, emotional exhaustion and the end of the child rearing process are other common reasons.

According to ADFP Vice President Cinda Jones, “Gray divorces are a rapidly growing divorce demographic, and it is likely these and other causes frequently overlap in divorces among this group.  Two common triggers are the children leaving the home and upcoming retirement.”

Additional details about the survey will be discussed at the upcoming ADFP conference, to be held in New York City, September 23-25.  One of the featured speakers will be Janice Green, a prominent attorney and author of the newly-published book, “Divorce After 50: Your Guide to the Legal and Financial Challenges.”

The ADFP conference is an annual event for divorce professionals that focuses on timely legal, financial and emotional issues in divorce.  Grey divorces are but one of many subjects that will be addressed at this year’s conference.  For the first time also, the conference will include a day of coursework dubbed ADFP University.
