The world's pre-eminent mobile commerce enabler, DOCOMO Digital, has enabled direct carrier billing for HUAWEI AppGallery for Asiacell, Iraq's leading mobile carrier.

Carrier billing is an increasingly popular mode of payment for digital services, especially in emerging markets across the Middle East, enabling faster and frictionless transactions in application marketplaces such as HUAWEI AppGallery while providing better transparency and control over purchases for subscribers. Digital content consumption, including video streaming and gaming, has been steadily increasing in Iraq.

HUAWEI AppGallery is the third-largest application marketplace globally, with more than 540 million monthly active users. Huawei has committed US$1 billion to attract app developers to HUAWEI AppGallery, and the community has now grown to 2.7 million, with 300,000 of those developers based outside China.

"Asiacell is committed to bringing great customer experiences to our subscribers. Huawei phones have a large user base in Iraq, and our customers will enjoy the added convenience provided by carrier billing," said Chra Hussain, Chief Commercial Officer at Asiacell.

"We are pleased to see our partnerships with Asiacell and Huawei go from strength to strength. Our state-of-the-art managed service platform is purpose-built to make integrations with application marketplaces such as HUAWEI AppGallery happen for our telco partners quickly and reliably, reducing the demands on internal teams," said Jonathan Bennett, Chief Commercial Officer at DOCOMO Digital.

"Huawei is delighted to work with Asiacell and DOCOMO Digital to enable direct carrier billing for digital services purchased through HUAWEI AppGallery," said Adam Xiao, Managing Director of Huawei Mobile Services in the Middle East and Africa, Huawei Consumer Business Group. "When instant card payment for digital services is not a feasible option for subscribers, direct carrier billing ensures that they can continue to enjoy their favourite digital services."
