Document Solutions, Inc. (DSi) E-Discovery Professionals Awarded CEDS Certification
Tom Turner and Gary Torgersen are among the select group to earn new designation
Document Solutions, Inc. (DSi), an e-discovery and digital forensics company, announced today that Tom Turner, president and co-founder, and Gary Torgersen, vice president of operations & technology, are among the select group to earn the new Certified E-Discovery Specialist (CEDS) designation.
The CEDS credential is earned by individuals who pass a rigorous four-hour examination that provides a tough and objective measure of mastery of the challenging field of e-discovery. The certification program is administered by the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists, which notes that it is “the premier membership organization worldwide of professionals in the field.”
“Document Solutions, Inc. is a strong believer in establishing measurable standards for excellence in e-discovery,” said Turner. “Credentialing such as the CEDS is particularly important because of our industry’s relative youth. Objective testing is necessary to assure professionals have both a thorough understanding of all aspects of e-discovery and the skills required to put that knowledge to use.”
The CEDS certification is evidence that designees are competent and knowledgeable in e-discovery regardless of their professional specialization—whether they are lawyers, litigation support staff, records managers, information technology (IT) directors, court personnel, paralegals or consultants. The credential is an assurance to employers, colleagues and clients that the CEDS holder is serious about efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and risk reduction in all phases of e-discovery.
"For the successful candidates, the CEDS designation is powerful evidence of highly specialized expertise that is recognized and welcomed by law firms, corporations, courts, peers, government agencies, and clients," said William Hamilton, a partner at the law firm of Quarles & Brady, who chairs the ACEDS Advisory Board.
The proctored CEDS certification exam was launched on November 1, 2010, and is offered at more than 560 secure ACEDS-Kryterion Testing Centers around the world, including some 320 in the United States and 30 in Canada. It tests a candidate’s knowledge in 15 major areas of electronic discovery, including information management, litigation hold implementation, collection planning and implementation, data processing and culling, document review, project management, legal framework and obligation, international discovery, technology and ethics.
“As the e-discovery landscape continues to evolve and mature, we expect to see more credentialing options emerge and become accepted in our field,” said Torgersen. “Certifications also benefit the justice system because they provide the court with a legally defensible verification of competence.”
“We are committed to remaining on the cutting edge of all aspects of our industry – whether it’s credentialing, technology or customer service,” said Turner. “Our ultimate goal is ensure that we provide the highest quality standards in everything we do so that our clients are served above expectations.”
In addition to the CEDS designation, DSi team members hold these certifications: Certified Computer Examiner (CCE), EnCase Certified Examiner (EnCE), Summation Support Specialist (SSS), Catalyst Repository Certified Trainer, Catalyst Repository Fast Track Certification, Clearwell Advanced Training Certification, Clearwell Sales Certification, Certified CompTIA Network+, A+ and Green IT technician certification.
