Samantha, Nifty Mom,

I am so pleased to be a part of Nifty Mom Blog. My book, “Fluffy’s Guardian Angel” is about my favorite gal, Fluffy. The book means a lot to me and so I am pleased to share some personal stories about us. If any of your readers are interested in purchasing the book, they can find a direct link at the end of this post.

A lot of folks ask me about why I tell the story from Fluffy’s point of view. I just didn’t see any other way of telling the story. Since I wasn’t able to be with her on her odyssey, I had to imagine the things she must have gone through while she was lost to me. It seemed only natural to tell it in Fluffy’s own words.

So why was it possible for Fluffy to survive the hazardous situations she encountered while she was on her odyssey? In the book, Fluffy first noticed someone watching her from the bushes. She originally was frightened and skeptical of these eyes, (whatever or whoever they belonged to); she got her answer one evening at dusk when she was crossing a highway.

Another question my readers want to know about is what was the reason Fluffy was able to survive in the bitter snow and ice she encountered? The Keeshond is a double coated breed consisting of a wooly undercoat and a longer outer coat hair. In the earlier days each sailor on the ice ships had their own Keeshond to sleep with and the fur kept the sailors warm and comfortable. They were probably of arctic origin, related to the Chow Chow, Norwegian Elk Hound, Pomeranian and Samoyed.

I think another puzzle that folks want to know about is how did Fluffy survive without her food and water bowls? In her hungry state she would eat anything possible. According to the vet who treated her after she came home, her diet probably consisted of parts of dead birds and animals. We imagine that she also stole food from farm animals and so in the story I hear Fluffy tell tales of those critters who definitely did not want to share their supplies with her.

I would like to share the purpose of the dedicated page. The first four names are my grandchildren. The part about James Hill, the “Gentle Giant” refers to the farmer who rescued Fluffy and saved her life. He carried her in a blanket to his house from where she was hiding under an old pickup truck. During my search for her I think I talked to every farmer in the county and no one had seen her. After about a week I resolved she was lost forever and I returned to Arizona. In about a month I received the call from James Hill telling me he had rescued Fluffy. When I got there, she still had her collar on as well as the dog license number from Maricopa County in Arizona. That is how he was able to find me. Naturally, I drove back to Missouri to pick her up.

One of my favorite comments about Fluffy’s story came from a former students in the form of a note to me after a reading: WHEN IT’S FLUFFYS BIRTHDAY WRITE A LETTER TO HER WITH OUR LOVE AND THEN BURN IT SO THE ASHES WILL GO TO HEAVEN”. I like to think that someday I will join Fluffy there.
