My pets have always been like family to me. I buy them special treats at the store, give them a new toy for the holidays, hang out on the couch watching the game, and sadly, grieve when they are lost or no longer with us. As a pet-friendly household, we are always more than happy to read pet-centered tales. This is exactly why I was thrilled to learn about Fluffy’s Guardian Angel by Donald Bussel.

I love that this sweet story is inspired by the real-life incident experience of Donald’s four-legged best friend, a keeshond named Fluffy! This children’s book includes a fun-filled tale of Fluffy’s adventure when she became lost, and how her guardian angel helped her survive and return home. Told from Fluffy’s perspective, she is having so much fun playing in the snow with her friends, she doesn’t realize exactly how far from home she has ventured. Life lessons are learned upon her way home!
While my son is still too young to fully grasp the tale, he certainly loved the colorful illustrations by Frank Roosa. He couldn’t help but point with glee to each animal featured. I can’t wait for when he is older to really understand Fluffy’s adventure, the life lessons she learns, and the importance of her guardian angel. I let various friends borrow the book to read to their children. Most opted to use the story as a bedtime read. Everyone has loved it!
Donald recently revealed to me how the real-life Fluffy came into his life. Someone dropped her off at the Arizona Humane Society. When Donald saw her, he knew she was the dog for him! He found out later she was due to be euthanized the next day because the shelter had her for quite some time. He immediately adopted her and brought her to her new home. More than ever does this story hold a special place in my heart. During my life I have adopted all my dogs, except for one, from shelters and rescue groups. There is a big soft spot in my heart for rescue dogs.
