Praise for young Doncaster girl whose design has gone countrywide

A drawing by a young Doncaster girl has been recreated to make a stunning design used throughout a brochure posted to hundreds of contacts around the country.

Doncaster Children’s Services Trust is always keen to ask children for their input and feedback, so Amy**, aged 13, drew her picture as an idea for a leaflet. It immediately captured the Trust’s attention and was sent to professional designers to develop it for the Trust’s first brochure called Our journey so far.

The three smiley characters in her picture are holding hands and holding a balloon. They also feature throughout the brochure, have been posted on social media and will be seen on the Trust’s website and other materials.

Amy was invited to meet the Chief Executive who presented her with a gift voucher to say thank you.

Amy said: “I was very happy to hear I’d won the competition. My children’s services picture shows happy children, which is how I feel.”

The Trust has put children at the heart of how it works, from deciding how to improve its services, advising the Chief Executive and even getting involved in the recruitment process when appointing new staff.

Chief Executive Paul Moffat said: “We’re delighted to thank Amy for doing such a fabulous job with her drawing. She’s given us something we are proud to show off now and for many months to come.

“We’ve had great feedback on the brochure, proving the powerful impact a child’s contribution can have.”

This presentation comes alongside the Trust’s picture competition offering prizes totalling £100. The Trust is calling out to all Doncaster children to submit pictures of what they want to be when they grow up. Entries must be in by 25 June.
