Donkey Republic is pleased to announce the launch of our MaaS (Mobility-as-a-service) operated e-bike deal with Brest and the transport operator Bibus (RATP Dev branch in Brittany) today 16 June as planned according to our company forecast

The Donkey bikes are launching today almost a week before the Tour de France's departure on Saturday 26 June. This 12-month pilot, a first of its kind for the Brest area, aims to test a new soft mobility service, suitable for short distances or short periods.

Highlights:

  • 12 months pilot (until 15.06.22)
  • 150 e-bikes in total: 90 bikes for the launch in June → July till October 110 bikes in total → from 20 October150 bikes in total
  • Donkey Republic’s very first publicly financed MaaS deal for e-bikes
  • Deal included in the company forecast
  • Our introductory offer allows all residents to test our electric bikes for 15 free minutes with the code BIBUS.
  • Second deal with the French transportation firm RATP, first SaaS pilot in 2019 in Valenciennes that has been continued
  • Watch the launch video on youtube here

The Brest deal is a MaaS (Mobility-as-a-service) operated deal won through a tender issued by the Brest public transport company Bibus.

The management, battery recharging and maintenance of the bicycles, as well as the administration of the mobile application, will be handled by Donkey Republic. A local technical team has been recruited and trained by Donkey Republic to carry out these tasks, having recently moved into new offices in Brest.

The city writes in their official press release today:
From the outset, it was envisaged as a sustainable mobility service complementary to the public transport network, offering environmentally friendly travel options when the public transport network is less relevant (evenings/night, Sundays, areas with poor access to the main network) or when customers wish to enjoy Brest in a different way (feeling of freedom, more active mobility, etc.) [...] Depending on the success of this experiment, the service may be extended beyond June 2022, reinforced (new bicycles or other modes of active mobility, new cages, etc.) or extended to the other municipalities of the metropolis.”
Donkey Republic is proud to support the Metropolis of Brest and the Bibus team in this initiative to offer better urban mobility to their citizens and to work together for this positive and sustainable change. In honor of this special partnership, the citizens of Brest will notice that all the Donkey bikes have Breton names, such as glizh or sonerezh. If you are unsure of the translation, it is noted on our bikes in French and English for the enjoyment of locals and tourists alike.
