August 11, 2011 - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - Specializing in restorative and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Kevin Rykard is dedicated to providing the very latest in technology and services to his growing practice in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Dr. Rykard is now offering dental implants. And a CEREC machine has been installed in his office. This state-of-the-art machine allows him to make crowns, veneers, lumineers and other porcelain pieces in one visit. Patients are no longer inconvenienced by making a second visit while their restorative work is sent out to a laboratory.

Dr. Rykard cited several advantages to patients when utilizing the CEREC machine:

  • Only one visit
  • No temporary crowns to come off on the weekend
  • Less likely to need a root canal
  • Extremely high quality fit
  • No metal in the restoration--no black lines along the gum line
  • More natural looking than porcelain to metal crowns
  • Very strong material

According to the manufacturer, 95-97% of CEREC crowns were still intact after five years. In addition, the survival rate of inlays and onlays was 90-95% after 10 years—a better success rate than the gold standard.

With CEREC, the tooth is powder-sprayed with a thin layer of blue anti-reflective contrast medium, imaged by a 3-D imaging camera and uploaded to the CEREC computer. A restoration can be designed to restore the tooth to its appropriate form and function. Data stored in a file is sent to a milling machine. The restoration can then be milled out of a solid ceramic or composite block. Milling time varies from four to 20 minutes.

Dr. Rykard received his dental training at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, where he graduated with honors. He established his private practice in Oklahoma City, where he has been offering cosmetic, restorative, and general dentistry for the past 23 years.

Throughout his career, Dr. Rykard has been an active member of several prestigious professional organizations, including:

  • American Dental Association
  • Oklahoma Dental Association
  • Oklahoma County Dental Society
  • Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
  • Academy of General Dentistry

In order to provide the best care possible for his patients, he has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education, learning the very latest procedures through such organizations as the Dawson Center; the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry (LVI); and the Schuster Center.

Dental implants are just one example of services that Dr. Rykard began offering after intensive studies.

“Previously, I had been sending out the implant placement to a lab,” he said. “I started offering dental implant service because my patients prefer to have everything done in one office if at all possible. I was also looking for something new and challenging to renew my practice.”

Dr. Rykard’s practice strongly emphasizes the importance of preventative measures for good dental health.

“By helping patients to maintain proper dental hygiene and by treating problems in their earliest stages, we can reduce the number of cosmetic and restorative procedures that will be required in the future,” he said.

“As we like to say in our practice, ‘Your smile matters. Your comfort matters. Your time matters. YOU matter.’”
