DRAIN DOCTOR FRANCHISE HANDED BACK TO MOTHER
The master franchise license for Drain Doctor Plumbing Ltd (www.draindoctor.co.uk), the UK’s premier combined plumbing and drain repair company, has been sold back to its original franchise license owners, the Waco, Texas-based Dwyer Group (www.dwyergroup.com).
Drain Doctor franchise sales director Jan Mitman said: “After caring for and nurturing the business and developing it into one of the most successful franchises in the UK we are handing baby back to mother.”
Drain Doctor is known as Mr Rooter in the United States. Freddie and Jan Mitman purchased the master franchise for the UK and Ireland from the Dwyer Group, changed the name of the business to suit the regional market and launched it in Peterborough in 1993.
Freddie said: “Drain Doctor Plumbing quickly grew to become the country's largest combined emergency plumbing and drain repair service. In that time we have delivered sustained growth in spite of some challenging economic conditions.
“Drain Doctor now delivers full-service plumbing and drainage solutions to national restaurant, hotel, catering and leisure businesses as well as households. It provides a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year service across the country with each of the 80 franchised areas run as an independent business.”
The Dwyer Group is one of the world’s largest franchising companies of trade service brands. The acquisition of the Drain Doctor business by the group, which also owns the franchise licenses for Mr Electric and Aire Serv in the UK, is the latest in a series of purchases which emphasise its growing interest in direct franchising on an international level.
On signing the deal Mike Bidwell, president and CEO of the Dwyer Group, said: “This is a momentous day for the international strength and commitment we are making to support and grow our most successful franchise network abroad.”
The UK business will be overseen by Dwyer Group director Jeff Meyers. He said: “Everything is changing yet nothing is changing. While there is a change of leadership, Drain Doctor will continue to deliver the same dazzling levels of service that its customers across the UK and Ireland have come to expect.”
Jan Mitman will remain temporarily in her role as franchise sales director. She said:
“We are extremely happy that Dwyer Group has taken up the challenge of building the Drain Doctor network still further. Their track record proves that they will be the ideal leaders for the task ahead. Drain Doctor will, so to speak, stay in the family.
