Nation of uncomfortable sleepers: Statistics show hundreds of beds bought at night

  • 1 in 4 beds are bought between 8pm and 10pm
  • 1 in 10 beds bought in the middle of the night
  • Not ready to get in that dreaded bed, 8pm is the most popular bed shopping hour

As the UK further becomes an online-shopping phenomenon, statistics released by Britain’s leading bed specialist, Dreams, show online bed sales booming. Nations of uncomfortable sleepers are burning the midnight oil, in hope of buying a new bed online and finally getting a good night’s sleep.

Statistics show that 1 in 4 (24.99%) beds are purchased between the hours of 8pm and 10pm as people prepare for another unsettled night of rest, whilst 1 in 10 (9.45%) beds are bought between midnight and 6am, as night owls hunt for a bed that will combat their sleeping fears.

The generation of night shoppers are most likely to live in London and the South East, whilst folk living in the Liverpool region seem to be content with their bedtime routines. People from the Midlands are also a restless bunch and Yorkshire residents are topping the charts when it comes to getting a good night’s rest. Sunday evenings see the most night time sales as people across the country prepare for the Monday blues.

As the UK takes to the internet to shop until they drop, Dreams have reported that almost half (42.9%) of their customers shop using tablets and other mobile devices.

Nick Wood, from Dreams Beds, said: “Our online sales are soaring, as we see more and more people preferring to shop online. As tablets and mobile devices are becoming more widely available we expect this to continue to grow.

“It’s amazing just how many of our beds are purchased when people are struggling to sleep or preparing for another night of restlessness, the fact that people can shop 24 hours a day has really had a huge impact on the retail market.

“Here at Dreams we recommend that you choose a bed that suits your needs. It’s important that you get around 8 hours of good rest every night. Always remember that the mattress is vital to ensuring you get the rest you need and deserve, so choose one that supports you and makes you feel most comfortable.”
