Sharing Success at Driving Miss Daisy Franchise Discovery Event

Enjoy life, have fun and stay socially connected!

An uplifting event celebrating the success of franchise businesses providing Driving Miss Daisy services in the South took place in Petersfield on Tuesday evening.

The event, held at the Langrish House, was particularly special as the keynote speakers were Jack and Melanie Harper, founders and owners of Driving Miss Daisy NZ and UK, currently in the UK supporting the UK franchise operation.

Addressing the meeting, they spoke of the need for people, particularly the older generation, to feel empowered and staying independent with the ability to get around with transport, enjoying life, having fun and stay socially connected with others in their community, without feeling beholden or indebted to friends and relatives to keep mobile.

Chris White, who with his wife Anna, runs the Lee on the Solent franchise in Hampshire said that every client they had taken on has become a repeat user of the service, often booking the same time slot each week for appointments such as the hairdresser or shopping. Chris and Anna brought Sally to the meeting, who starts as a Daisy driver for their franchise as from tomorrow.

Emma Wilkin, Franchise Manager in Calne, Wiltshire, told how the user of the service is not necessarily the client; “We have a client who travels a lot and whose Mother needs transport and assistance. We are a trusted ‘extended family’ member and our client knows his Mother will keep her appointments, socialise and go shopping even when he is away, and enjoy some companionship in the process”.

Tori Lumb, co-Franchise owner in Farnham, Surrey, spoke of the demand for the service driving her business forward; “From starting just 8 weeks ago, we have 2 Daisy cars running and have employed 3 part-time Daisy drivers to keep up the with demand”.

With 11.4 million people aged 65 or over in the UK, not forgetting younger age groups who don’t drive or who have restricted mobility, and parents who need children safely transported from A to B, the demand for Driving Miss Daisy services will soar.

The Driving Miss Daisy franchise is becoming known as ‘the business opportunity with a big heart’, offering people the chance to own and run their own business whilst making a real difference to their community.
