A creative twist on protective coveralls

DuPont™ Tyvek® Classic Xpert coveralls take centre stage in once in a lifetime event

As dusk fell across the Chiltern Hills in Oxfordshire, hundreds of people wearing the new Tyvek® Classic Xpert coverall descended into the valley to perform one of the most extraordinary and spectacular pieces of dance drama ever seen in the region with a distinct industrial, familiar twist.

Over 1,200 young performers from local communities, 600 singers, artists and volunteer cyclists (helping to power the set) all wearing Tyvek® Classic Xpert coveralls performed an impressive dance routine amidst live sound effects, creative lighting, flares and smoke. The Tyvek® Classic Xpert coveralls, more commonly seen protecting those in manufacturing, laboratories, car body shops and crime scenes, were chosen after the dancer’s trialled a variety of protective coveralls to test the flexibility, comfort, fit as well as the ability not to rip or wear out when performing a range of expressive movements. DuPont generously donated 2,000 of the suits that were used in various events funded by Legacy Trust UK, of which the Tree of Light event at Stonor Park, Henley-Upon-Thames, on the 21st July was the striking finale.

Ian Samson, UK territory manager for Tyvek®, who helped organise the donation commented,

“DuPont was really thrilled to donate the new Tyvek® Classic Xpert for such a poignant event. The suits’ design lends itself to extreme conditions and the event certainly put some of them to the test. What a spectacular way to test out its wearing performance”.

The Tree of Light performance, centred around a 16 metre-high industrial structure, tells a story of a mythical tree rediscovered in a future where trees were no more than a memory. The tree was born, attacked and invaded, plundered and reborn, as the show explored the dark and lighter sides of our complex and fragile relationship with the natural world. The bright white hooded suits provided a stark contrast against the dark sky and grimy, industrial set.
