New Northern Virginia High-speed Rail Segment Will Serve Upcoming Potomac Shores Development in Prince William County
Convenient commute will connect SunCal's new mixed-use community in Virginia to downtown Washington, D.C.
Prince William County, VA (Sept. 17, 2012) -- The announcement today that the Federal Railroad Administration plans to release $74.8 million to build a third Virginia Rail Express (VRE) track from Stafford County to Prince William County, Virginia opens the door for commuters in the Washington, D.C. Metro area to live in a new waterfront community on the Potomac River.
The rail line will connect the D.C. Metroplex to SunCal's new Potomac Shores master-planned community in Prince William County. SunCal is constructing the transit-oriented development with two miles of shoreline along the Potomac on 1,920 forested acres 30 miles south of downtown Washington near Interstate 95. Residential construction of phase one homes by NVR, Inc. is underway and a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course will be open for public play in the summer of 2013.
"This third track will allow residents of Potomac Shores to live in a wooded waterfront community with dramatic views of the Potomac River and have convenient commuter rail access to jobs in Washington, D.C.," said SunCal Senior Vice President David Soyka. “The town center is being designed within a five-minute walking radius of a new VRE station that will be built within the community, making Potomac Shores a true transit-oriented development.”
Potomac Shores’ plans call for more than 3,000 homes in walkable neighborhoods, a mixed-use town center offering 3.7 million feet of commercial space, a 450-slip marina, an 18-hole golf course and 21 sports fields and courts. Also planned will be the region’s first five-star resort and spa. The first phase of Potomac Shores will open in the second quarter of 2013 when the new model homes debut. Potomac Shores’ project information and preferred interest list is available now at www.potomacshores.com.
