New report outlining the views of 80% of the world’s utilities on electricity access and carbon reduction will be launched at COP20 Lima

Press conference – Global Electricity Initiative

When: Tuesday, 9 December, 10.00 to 10.30am

Where: Press Conference Room 2, in the main COP venue

Philippe Joubert, Executive Chair of the Global Electricity Initiative, will reveal the findings of the Initiative’s new survey. The survey gathers the views of CEOs from the world’s major utilities covering 80% of global production on the challenges and successes of expanding electricity access and fighting climate change. It is hoped that the findings will help policymakers understand the challenges and best practices from the very people who are working on the ground to deliver energy to those who need it.

Journalists not attending COP may watch the press conference live or on-demand on: http://unfccc6.meta-fusion.com/cop20/

The Global Electricity Initiative is an alliance between the World Energy Council, the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP), and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

The press conference will give media an exclusive opportunity to be briefed by the report’s author ahead of its launch later that day at an official side event,
co-organised with the International Energy Agency.
