Ms Pirjo Jantunen elected chair of the World Energy Council Future Energy Leaders.

Ms Pirjo Jantunen, Environmental Adviser at Helen Ltd., from Finland, has been elected chair of the World Energy Council Future Energy Leaders, a community of young professionals who share a commitment to shaping the global energy future.

Marie-José Nadeau, World Energy Council Chair, said: “Pirjo brings leadership and enthusiasm that will inspire young professionals to follow in her footsteps.  The challenges in the energy sector, such as climate change mitigation are global.  Having safe, sustainable and reliable energy is central to a healthy, caring and peaceful society.  I look forward to working with Pirjo and our Future Energy Leaders as the Council works to address these challenges.” 

The World Energy Council established the Future Energy Leaders’ Programme as a platform for engaging the best and brightest of young professionals with the objective of inspiring them to become the next generation of energy leaders capable of solving the world’s most pressing challenges regarding energy and sustainability.

Pirjo Jantunen said: “The Chairmanship of the network is a fantastic opportunity.  My objective is to raise awareness of the Future Energy Leaders’ Programme and to improve it even further.”

The Future Energy Leaders’ Programme, FEL-100, is the World Energy Council’s engagement programme for the younger generation of energy leaders from around the world.  The programme serves as a platform for engaging 100 ambitious young professionals to contribute to the World Energy Council’s global dialogue.
