EdRover Vies for Votes in Bid for $25K From Pepsi Refresh Project
Grant will expand mobile app to raise funds for schools across the U.S.
(LOS ANGELES, CA – December 6, 2011) – EdRover™, the nation’s first mobile app that partners businesses with education, has been selected to compete in the Pepsi Refresh Project for a $25,000 grant. Individuals can vote each day by visiting www.refresheverything.com/edrover or by texting 110504 to 73774 (PEPSI). Votes can be cast daily through Dec. 31.
EdRover is the only mobile application of its kind that allows consumers to direct funds from participating businesses to the schools of their choice. It is currently available for iPhone and Windows Phone platforms. The grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project will expand the edRover app to Android and Blackberry phones.
Each time a consumer uses the app to “check in” at participating locations a donation is directed to the school selected by the user. Consumers also can raise funds for schools by making online purchases from more than 100 retailers via edrover.com.
The Pepsi Refresh Project, which launched in January 2010, awards grant money to individuals and organizations with innovative ideas that positively impact the community. Only 1,000 applications are accepted each month, and voters determine which projects are winners. In its first year, the Pepsi Refresh Project awarded more than $20 million in grants for programs across the country.
“Since education funding problems plague every community, our goal is to expand the number of people who have access to edRover through the Pepsi Refresh Project grant,” said edRover creator Tania Mulry. “EdRover truly mobilizes business and consumers who care about education in a way that supports their favorite schools every day through the course of everyday activities. We hope people will vote each day; just like the app, it doesn’t cost you anything!”
