Breakthrough order for DAB in Korea
Effnet subsidiary Factum Electronics breaks into Korean market with digital radio equipment order Up against stiff, international competition, Factum Electronics AB has been commissioned to supply equipment to a major Korean TV and radio broadcasting company. "The Korean order is very prestigious. Digital radio is much more than traditional radio in Korea, where the focus is on developing computer services like video distribution via digital radio," says Johan Ericsson, CEO of Factum Electronics. "This order is another important reference for our continued efforts within the digital radio segment." The total value of the order is estimated at around SEK 2.5 million. Factum Electronics has previously supplied similar digital radio solutions to customers in Norway, Canada, Denmark, Hungary, and Sweden. Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is the established technology for digital radio transmissions, offering unsurpassed sound quality. "DAB by Factum" is an established concept in many parts of the world, for everything from small, private radio stations to large, national network operators. In Korea, the system is called Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB), which indicates a substantially greater focus on data services. In contrast, the European term DAB reflects more of a focus on audio services. Factum Electronics will deliver systems based on the company's modular architecture, including sound coders, equipment for IP broadcasting and other data transmissions, multiplexes, and management systems.
