Management Expansion Reflects Effnet's Increasing Global Focus US-Based CEO, CTO and Board Chairman Appointments to Extend Effnet's Reach After Effnet successfully completed two licensing deals for its award- winning IP packet processing technology, and following its launch of security focused products and services in the European market, the company is continuing its internationalization. Effnet Group AB, whose shares are quoted on the "New Market" List in Stockholm, announced the US-based appointments of Tony Svensson, CEO and Stephen Pink, CTO in order to address global opportunities. Norman Rasmussen will serve as Chairman of the Board. "This is the next phase in the global development of our corporate structure. To fully capitalize on the global market opportunities, it was a natural step to appoint a US-based CEO, CTO and Chair at this stage of the company's evolution," said outgoing CEO Tomas Althén. "I will remain on the board and will be introducing Tony Svensson over the next few months to the investment community worldwide; a community which I have enjoyed interacting with during the growth of the company." Tony Svensson, currently CEO of Effnet, Inc., has been appointed CEO of Effnet Group AB. Svensson will keep his position as CEO of Effnet, Inc., and will remain in Silicon Valley. With some 20 years experience from marketing, sales and management of high tech companies, Svensson has also consulted for Intel, Lucent, Nortel and Sun Microsystems. While serving as its Vice President of Consulting Management, Svensson led a successful corporate repositioning for Crimson Consulting Group. He holds an MSCE from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. "Given Effnet's alliances with key Internet and networking infrastructure players, the company is well- positioned to play a significant role in the new economy. These partners use our core IP packet processing technology and security offerings in their products and services," said Effnet CEO Tony Svensson. "They tell us they gain not only a combined speed and security functionality, but also significant time to market advantages." Norman Rasmussen, member of the board for over two years, has been elected Chairman of the Board. Based in Boston, Rasmussen has four decades of hands-on operational IT sector experience. He was associated with IBM in the US and in Europe for 24 years, where he was regarded as the "father" of VM/CMS, a major IBM operating system. Between 1991 and 1997, he was founder/director of two IT consultancies and was president/CEO of Softech, Inc., a NASDAQ listed IT services company. "I am most assured in Norman Rasmussen's ability. With his extensive technical and business background as well as his experience with our group, he will transition himself seamlessly," said outgoing Chairman Svante Carlsson. "Effnet is strengthening itself as a combined Swedish and American entity. The company has consistently moved to position itself as an international company with enormous market potential in both the US and Europe. As we are embarking on a commercial break-through, the timing is right for the current changes in the company." Carlsson will remain on the board as a full member. Stephen Pink, Doctor and Professor in Computer Communication and one of the company founders has been appointed CTO for Effnet Group AB. Pink is based in Tucson, Arizona and is a highly recognized authority in the global Internet community. He is a member of several standardization groups within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). "I feel privileged to be working with the entire board, and particularly so with Norman Rasmussen and Stephen Pink in their new roles; the contact networks and experience are wonderful resources I have already started to leverage," said Tony Svensson. About Effnet, Inc. Headquartered in Silicon Valley, Effnet provides software tools to enhance speed, reliability and security in network architectures. The EffnetEdge toolkit, the company's technology product line, is a suite of modular components for network processors and communication chips. By using highly efficient algorithms and data structures, Effnet breaks conventional performance barriers for routing table lookups and filtering operations, enabling low cost, high performance networking and telecommunications components and solutions. The EffnetEdge toolkit can be easily integrated into any communication device, system, or application that demands high performance IP routing and firewall functionality, dramatically reducing time-to-market for its customers. About Effnet Group AB Effnet's mission is to develop and market multifunction networking products that deliver outstanding performance at affordable prices. Besides offering stand-alone solutions, Effnet aims to be the leader in the new "server-centric" market that is now emerging, which adds key features to industry-standard servers. Effnet Group AB was established in the spring of 1997 with the goal of commercializing research carried out at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden. Research engineers had discovered a way to significantly improve the speed of router table look-ups, and these results are the foundation of the patented Effnet Algorithms. The company's technology has been field tested and proven via a line of router and firewall products in Europe. These award-winning products have received high praise from the networking community. In mid-1999, Effnet's technology demonstrated superior firewall performance during testing at KeyLabs, the leading independent lab specializing in hardware and software testing in a networked environment. Today Effnet Group AB is a growing company with 80+ employees, with offices in Luleå and Stockholm in Sweden, as well as Boston and Mountain View in the United States. The company combines its roots in research and academia with professional management and outstanding business skills.
