Electrolux Laundry Systems invests in new technology and creates seamless communication with customers Electrolux Laundry Systems, one of the leading producer of professional laundry systems, is investing USD 22 M (SEK 180 M) in new production technology and IT-solutions for its manufacturing facilities. This investment is the largest in the company's history and will significantly transform and improve business and manufacturing processes. . Modularity is the key, and the aim is to offer customers the flexibility to tailor and design their own laundry systems. Using the latest in IT and standardized modules, Laundry Systems sales engineers will be able to guide customers through the design selection choices to create tailored solutions. "The new production technology will change the very nature of how we do business. From now on customers will come into the process much earlier, which makes it possible for us to deliver exactly what they need", says Jim Kontovagios, Marketing vice President at Electrolux Laundry Systems. "We are developing a platform for an entirely seamless information flow between us and the customer." Phased development The first phase of the modernization program will start this July and is expected to be complete by August this year with the second phase implemented by early 2001. The program encompasses all aspects of manufacturing, including IT, supply chain management and logistics which will interact to support production efficiency, at the plants in Ljungby, Sweden and Tommerup, Denmark.
