First Environmental Product Declarations for refrigerators and freezers certified As the first company in the world, appliance manufacturer Electrolux has certified its environmental product declarations for complex products according to ISO TR 14025. The declarations for eight different refrigerators and freezers have been certified. The certificates are the result of lifecycle assessments compiled over 15 months as well as business-specific drafts, common guidelines, etc. Says Sofia Medin, Project Manager at Electrolux: "We have worked with simpler forms of environmental product declarations for several years, so this was a natural step forward. These new, more detailed, declarations will create increased value, especially for our larger customers". The process was carried out together with the Swedish Environmental Management Council, a company jointly owned by the Ministry of the Environment, the Federation of Swedish Industries and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities, which has attracted broad international interest. Says Olof Ryding, President of the Swedish Environmental Management Council: "Similar declarations exist for other types of products and services, for example floors, woodwork, electricity and transport, but this is the first time we have certified environmental product declarations for such complex products with many different components." The new declarations will be used for the first time in connection to the international ISO 14000 conference in Stockholm, Sweden, on June 11-18.
