Elekta receives judgment from first instance in patent dispute Stockholm 12 September 2002 As previously announced, a jury in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, a first instance court, has entered a verdict for damages against certain companies within the Elekta Group based on a finding of patent infringement. The judge has now entered a judgment in an amount of approximately USD 25 M including damages, attorney's fees and other costs. Elekta does not consider itself liable for any patent infringement and is of the opinion that the judgment is incorrect. Elekta intends to vigorously defend itself and protect shareholder value with all appropriate legal means and will appeal the judgment to the appellate court. Elekta's opinion, supported by legal counsel in the case, is that an appeal has a strong basis.
