PRESS RELEASE Stockholm, Sweden, July 11, 2006 Leksell Gamma Knife® Perfexion™, Elekta’s new system for stereotactic radiosurgery, has for the first time been used clinically to treat patients at Hôpital de la Timone (University Hospital La Timone) in Marseille, France.

Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion represents a completely new technological approach. Designed for unlimited cranial reach and developed with a strong focus on ease of use and comfort for both patients and staff. This quantum leap provides a radiosurgical platform for further refinement and expansion of procedures in the brain, cervical spine and head & neck regions. University Hospital La Timone is first in the world to have a Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion installed and in clinical use. On July 10, three patients were successfully treated. “We are very proud to be the first clinic in the world to be able to provide stereotactic radiosurgery with Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion, a highly sophisticated system allowing us to treat more patients. Both patients and staff will benefit from the smart design that will rationalize our work procedures, giving us more time to focus on our patients”, comments Professor Jean Régis. University Hospital La Timone is an internationally well recognized clinic and a Center of Excellence in radiosurgery. Professor Jean Régis has also participated with very valuable expert advice in the development process of Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion. “I am very pleased to see that four years of research and development pays off and comes to the benefit of patients, first here in France but also in the future throughout the world with more installation of this truly innovative system”, says Tomas Puusepp, President and CEO of Elekta. ****** Leksell Gamma Knife® Perfexion™ is subject to regulatory clearance in North America. ******
