Elfster.com, a High-Tech Twist on a Classic Holiday Tradition
Elfster.com, the world’s leading social gifting site with 2 million members expected this holiday season, gives gifting a Web 2.0 upgrade while helping ease the stress of the holidays with its highly acclaimed Secret Santa program.
Elfster.com gives time-strapped party planners and gift givers the tools to rediscover the joy of gift giving by organizing a Secret Santa exchange, a tradition in which members of a group are randomly assigned other members to whom they anonymously give a gift.
A free online service, Elfster.com makes it easier than ever to connect, communicate and celebrate the spirit of the holidays, while adding a sense of surprise and anticipation as identities remain secret. It’s the perfect holiday entertaining game for friends and families, office parties and communities with features like:
+ Universal wishlists
+ Anonymous Q&A (think “what is your favorite color?”)
+ Personalized gift recommendations
+ Group discussions, and more.
The story
In 2004, Elfster founder Peter Imburg's family Secret Santa exchange had gone from a sweet holiday celebration to a massive effort. A software engineer and father of two, Imburg saw the stresses spiraling and gave the tradition a tech-based boost, creating Elfster as an online application that organized the exchange and communicated with participants, giving the organizer – his sister – a much-needed rest.
Since then, Elfster has worked with leading brands such as Claire's, GameStop, Disney and the US Postal Service to turn this new gift giving trend into a vibrant holiday tradition.
