Elisa Corporation, press release, 27 February 2012

An independent measurement of Finnish networks, conducted now for the ninth time, shows that the coverage of Elisa's 3G network is still more comprehensive than that of other mobile networks in Finland. In addition, 4G speed is available in Elisa's network in as many as 140 cities. According to the survey published today, all operators have significantly improved the quality of their networks, which means that Finns get mobile communication services of an increasingly high quality.

European Communications Engineering Ltd, an independent expert company, has studied Finnish 3G networks under Elisa’s commission since 2008. In all the studies, the coverage of Elisa's 3G network has been clearly more extensive than other mobile networks in Finland, and the outcome of the most recent survey showed this once again.

"It can clearly be seen that operators are developing their networks significantly, but there are still differences. Elisa is the leader in signal scope and quality (i.e. signal strength)," says Risto Jurva, Vice President of European Communications Engineering.

"We are the leading operator investor in Finland and work in a determined way for our network's quality and coverage. The availability of the network is a key factor for the users. Therefore, we deem it important that network quality is evaluated by an independent party on a regular basis. For four years now, nation-wide measurements done by the ECE have indicated the progress of Finnish mobile networks, and Elisa's network has been the most comprehensive and fastest in all measurements," says Matias Castrén, Elisa's Business Director for private customers' broadband subscriptions.

About the survey: The ninth independent survey on Finnish 3G networks by European Communications Engineering was carried out as a run measurement from 1 November 2011 to 18 January 2012, and it included 100 cities. The differences between networks were examined over a total distance of 9,261 kilometers, and the measured municipalities cover about 75% of the country’s population. The municipalities and routes are chosen by the party conducting the survey, and, apart from the 50 largest towns, they are only known in advance to the party conducting the survey. ECE conducts measurements for different operators and regulators internationally.
