Elkem achieves top ratings from CDP on climate, forests and water
Elkem, one of the world's leading suppliers of silicon-based advanced materials, has been rated by CDP among the world’s top performing companies in environmental transparency and performance on climate (A- rating), forests (A) and water (A-). Only 30 companies globally scored on a similarly high level as Elkem in the category on forests.
CDP – the global environmental disclosure nonprofit – has scored over 21,000 companies based on information reported through its climate change, deforestation and water security questionnaires. By scoring companies from D- to A, CDP takes them on a journey starting from disclosure, to understanding what to measure and finally how to take tangible, measurable actions.
Disclosure is a critical tool for achieving net-zero targets and avoiding greenwashing, tracking progress towards the Paris Agreement goals – and providing robust data and recommendations for the Global Stocktake. A List companies are those with the most accurate picture of their environmental impacts and are best equipped to take climate and nature-positive actions to mitigate them.
Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP, said: “A heartfelt congratulations to this year’s A List. As CDP continually raises the bar for what represents environmental leadership, the work of all companies should be celebrated, but is never complete. We must see corporate ambition ramp up on climate and nature-positive action. This has never been more crucial.”
“These strong ratings from CDP serve as another strong confirmation of Elkem’s position as one of the world’s leading companies in the environmentally responsible manufacture of advanced materials which are critical for the green and digital transitions. They also serve as an inspiration to continue improving further,” says Elkem’s CEO, Helge Aasen.
“It is our belief that companies that act responsibly and create value by securing sustainable economic growth with a limited environmental footprint will be successful in the long term. For Elkem, sustainability is central to our business strategy. Our mission is to provide advanced material solutions shaping a better and more sustainable future, adding value to our stakeholders globally. We will continue these efforts as we position for dual-play growth and green leadership,” he adds.
