From research to progress: Elvenite and Lantmännen BioAgri transform seed treatment with AI

Lantmännen BioAgri and Elvenite are now taking the step from research project to real application by implementing AI in the seed treatment process. The joint project, Speed Seed, which was initiated to explore the potential of machine learning in the efficiency of seed analysis for ThermoSeed treatment, has reached a milestone where AI now plays a central role in speeding up and improving the seed treatment process.

ThermoSeed, an environmentally friendly method for seed treatment, has been part of Lantmännen BioAgri's sustainability work since 2006. By combining Lantmännen's extensive data collection with Elvenite's technological expertise, a machine learning model has been developed to predict the optimal treatment intensity for different seed batches.

- The progress we have made through this collaboration is impressive. Thanks to AI, we can now predict the best treatment intensity with a high degree of accuracy. This is a big step forward that will contribute to more efficient and sustainable seed treatment, says Mathias Dyberg, CEO of Elvenite.

The model, now integrated into Lantmännen Bioagri's IT architecture, has been shown to shorten the analysis phase and increase the accuracy of predictions of the optimal treatment intensity. For a third of the seed batches, where the model is most confident, it achieves an impressive accuracy of 99% in its predictions.

- More efficient seed analyses are a very important success factor for us, and it is very gratifying to see how AI and Machine Learning can be useful in agriculture and contribute to solving real challenges, says Christian Thaning, Deputy CEO of Lantmännen BioAgri.

The Speed Seed project has evolved from an exploratory pilot study to a solution that is now ready to gradually begin contributing to daily operations. This exemplifies how the partnership between Elvenite and Lantmännen BioAgri has successfully overcome challenges and created a sustainable, efficient, and future-proof solution for seed treatment using AI.
