Emergency Nurses Association Receives Top ASAE Honor for Ebola Crisis Response
(June 25, 2015)—The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) has earned a 2015 ASAE Power of A Summit Award for its Ebola crisis response efforts, taking swift action to provide its members with the resources needed to keep the international population safe, ensure patients are triaged and treated appropriately, keep healthcare workers safe and appropriately trained on personal protective equipment, and share best practices for those experiencing Ebola firsthand.
ENA’s Ebola response efforts positioned the ENA as the industry expert among the media, and included an Ebola resource landing page with the most current information on the virus, preparedness and related content from other vital resources.
“Congratulations to the ENA for helping make the world a better place,” said Hugh “Mac” Cannon, MPA, CAE, Executive Director of ACEC of Metropolitan Washington, and chair of the Power of A Awards Judging Committee. “Their program exemplifies how associations make a difference every day – not just to the industry or profession they represent, but to society at large.”
The ENA reached out to other nursing organizations to collaborate, with a collective emphasis on patient safety and sharing best practices. They also conducted information sessions for ENA employees so they were better informed about the virus, and staff nurses volunteered for panel discussions to share their expertise throughout the U.S.
“Receiving a 2015 Summit Award for our Ebola crisis response effort is truly an honor,” said ENA Executive Director Susan M. Hohenhaus, LPD, RN, CEN, FAEN. “The crisis communications surrounding Ebola’s arrival in the U.S. was a unique effort as we provided emergency nurses around the globe, including ENA's 40,000 members, with the latest clinical news and information during a time when the situation was rapidly changing over the course of several weeks. While our members stood on the front line of emergency care, we committed to quickly building relationships with industry and government partners that allowed us to efficiently distribute critical information. We are grateful for this prestigious recognition from ASAE, and are honored to be recognized alongside our innovative peers.”
ASAE’s Power of A (association) Awards, the industry’s highest honor, recognize the association community’s valuable contributions on the local, national and global level. The Power of A Awards reward outstanding accomplishments of associations and industry professionals for their efforts to enrich lives, create a competitive workforce, prepare society for the future, drive innovation and make a better world.
