Members elect seven new leaders shaping the future of emergency nursing
The Emergency Nurses Association today announced the newest members elected to ENA leadership positions. Kathleen E. Carlson, MSN, RN, CEN, FAEN, of Hampton, Va., will serve as the 2015 president-elect of ENA, and then president of the largest professional association for emergency nurses in 2016. She is currently an emergency department nurse at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, and has been actively involved with ENA over her career including time spent on the Association’s Board of Directors.
Several other nurses have also been elected to represent ENA members. Karen K. Wiley, MSN, RN, CEN, of Omaha, Neb., will serve as ENA’s secretary/treasurer from January 2015 to December 2015. In that role, Wiley will monitor and interpret the fiscal affairs of ENA.
Two new directors will also serve three-year terms on ENA’s Board of Directors starting in 2015. The Board is the official governing body of ENA responsible for managing the Association’s affairs. They maintain and update ENA’s mission, vision and goals through strategic planning, set policies to govern and guide the Association and serve as board liaisons to states as assigned. The new directors are:
- Jean A. Proehl, MN, RN, CEN, CPEN, FAEN, of Cornish, N.H.
- Patricia Kunz Howard, PhD, RN, CEN, CPEN, NE-BC, FAEN, FAAN, of Lexington, Ky.
Three emergency nurses were elected to serve two-year terms on the ENA Nominations Committee starting in October. The Nominations Committee oversees the election process and develops rules to facilitate elections. The Committee consists of seven voting members, and committee members represent the region in which they hold a voting membership.
- Robyn R. Larkin, BSN, RN, CEN, of Fruit Heights, Utah, will represent members in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming
- Terry M. Foster, MSN, RN, CCRN, CEN, CPEN, FAEN, of Taylor Mill, Ky., will represent members in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin
- Lucinda W. Rossoll, MSN, RN, CEN, CPEN, CCRN, of Lebanon, N.H., will represent members in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont
