Where Has All the Honor Gone? Asks Author Robert Barriger Honour Found Calls for a Revival of this Essential Life Principle
Dallas, TX, May 25, 2011--When stories about deceit, corruption, and infidelity fill the news headlines, it makes us wonder – “Where has all the honor gone?” In the newly released book, Honour Found, Experiencing the Power of the Honour Principle and How it Can Add Significance to Your Life, Pastor Robert Barriger explores and explains the critical need to restore and integrate this valuable truth in all areas of life, work and leadership.
“To give and to receive honor is a basic human need,” explains Barriger. “There is a cry in the human heart for honor and need for heroes we can identify with and emulate.”
Honor is a foundational principal of every culture and relationship. The word honour originates from the word esteem, meaning to respect and value. In his newly released book, Honour Found, Barriger explains the meaning and importance through stories of heroes from the bible, communities, American leaders like George Washington and inspiring examples of Military heroes from Vietnam, Korea and World War II.
“Whatever we honor in life, we tend to reflect and become like,” Barriger states. “Unfortunately our media intensive world too often celebrates superficiality with focus on people like Lady Gaga, or fantasy heroes like Spiderman. Honor is more than fame or soul power it is a spiritual principle and measure of character.”
Winston Churchill said that a nation that fails to honor its heroes will have no heroes to honor. Those who have served in the Armed forces, police, fire or emergency departments understand the meaning of honor. “Honor is something that men long for but it has a weighty price tag. Men and women have sacrificed life, love and limbs for the sake of honor,” Barriger continues. “To dishonor means to ‘take lightly’ which is what happens when we discount a sacrifice that is been made on our behalf.”
Honor begins with gratitude, is reinforced with remembrance and established through memorials. Every dollar bill contains the words "In God We Trust". Israel was told to celebrate Passover to remember God’s faithfulness. Jesus broke bread and said, “Do this in remembrance of me”.
It was never intended that America’s National Holidays be reduced to a family eat-a-thon or a shopfest. Dedicated to the sacrifice of others, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Martin Luther King Day and Thanksgiving would be better named as “Days of Honor”. In Honour Found, Barriger reminds us that above the Korean Memorial are the words, Freedom Is Never Free. “I believe that every young person should visit the memorials in their town, or Washington D.C., of people who have died serving their country,” explains Barriger.
“When we give honor to our spouses, families, churches and nation, we help to build our communities,” Barriger concludes. “The Honour Principle is not found on a list it is found in the heart and must be lived.”
