Encare oversees the vital next step for ERAS® with one of the first hospitals in the world to fully implement EIAS across all surgical disciplines
Encare is proud to announce that Jewish General Hospital, Montreal, Canada, has become the first hospital in the world to implement the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) protocols across all surgical disciplines. This marks a vital next step in the advancement and global adoption of ERAS®, as healthcare systems strive to standardize and improve perioperative care.

A global first: Jewish General Hospital will be the first to implement ERAS® across all surgical disciplines – enabled by Encare.
Building on the successful use of ERAS® in four surgical specialties, Encare’s long-term partner Jewish General Hospital (JGH) has committed to expanding ERAS® protocols to all surgical service lines supported by Encare’s ERAS® Interactive Audit System (EIAS). This marks the establishment of a comprehensive hospital-wide ERAS® infrastructure, designed to make ERAS® more scalable and accessible across multidisciplinary teams.
The expansion will begin with the EIAS Protocol for Cardiac Surgery and continue across the remaining major surgical verticals, maximizing both clinical and financial benefits of enhanced recovery pathways.
“ERAS® works best when implemented consistently and hospital-wide,” says Rasmus Waller, CEO of Encare. “This expansion reflects the Jewish General Hospital’s commitment to clinical excellence and the value of evidence-based perioperative care. We are honored to continue supporting the JGH – and all of our valued partners – as they lead the way in implementing structured ERAS® pathways across all major surgical areas.”
“When it comes to improving the overall patient experience, from quality of care to more favorable outcomes, we’ve seen the clear benefits of our relationship with ERAS® at the Jewish General Hospital,” says Dr. David Zukor, Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the JGH—a member facility of the Integrated Health and Social Service University Network for West-Central Montreal (CIUSSS). “Expanding to a hospital-wide ERAS® infrastructure was the logical next step. It's a win-win for everyone.”
Key success factors identified by Encare’s partners:
- Clinical alignment: Achieved through strong clinical leadership and the use of evidence-based auditing to drive adherence and improvement.
- Data abstraction: Simplified by automated data transfer processes, reducing manual work and improving accuracy.
- Financial ROI: A demonstrated correlation between ERAS® compliance and cost reduction, securing management’s support for hospital-wide implementation.
