Enea Joins the Linaro Networking Group (LNG) as Group Member
Enea helps shaping the future of Linux on ARM based network infrastructure systems
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, February 20, 2013 – Enea® (NASDAQ OMX Nordic:ENEA), a world leading operating system solution vendor for 3G and 4G infrastructure equipment, today announced its membership in the Linaro Networking Group (LNG), which, together with other industry leaders, aims at accelerating Linux development for ARM processors in cloud and networking infrastructure products.
Enea bringing embedded software expertise to the Linaro community
Enea has provided software for ARM based architectures since the nineties, making Linaro a natural forum for Enea to drive software evolution in the Communications domain, together with leading silicon vendors, network equipment manufacturers, and other software vendors. Enea’s experience from optimizing system performance, real-time behavior, and availability will benefit the entire ecosystem.
"By working together on open source core software, Linaro enables its members to focus more of their own resources on value-added differentiation." said George Grey, Linaro CEO. "We're very pleased that Enea is a founding member of the Linaro Networking Group, and we look forward to seeing them build on our work to create innovative, differentiated solutions for their customers."
“Our membership in the Linaro Networking Group (LNG) reflects our commitment to Linux and to ARM in the networking space.” says Tobias Lindquist, CTO, Enea. “It is an important strategic step towards our goal to become the leading embedded Linux provider for ARM based systems.”
In the collaborative environment of the LNG, Enea will reinforce its position as the independent embedded software provider of choice for the world’s leading telecom equipment manufacturers, and expand its target markets to include all things communicating.
“As an independent Linux provider, Enea is in a strong position to focus on the needs of network equipment manufacturers and on software solutions that are hardware vendor agnostic.” says Lindquist.
About Linaro
Linaro is a member-sponsored, not-for-profit organization consolidating and optimizing open source Linux software and tools for ARM architectures. It has a business model where several companies jointly invest in a software engineering team that creates core open source software in a collaborative and transparent environment.
Linaro is intended to be a community focused organization which can embrace open source and bring members together in a manner that promotes cooperation, sharing and fundamental innovation at non-differentiating layers, leaving extra resource for industry participants to employ on differentiation.
The effectiveness of Linaro's approach has been demonstrated by Linaro becoming one of the largest company contributors to recent Linux kernels, from 3.0 to 3.7.
