Enea OSE Systems Sweeps into Asia Samsung Order and Reseller Agreements Launch Expansion Enea OSE Systems is increasing its expansion into Asia which started in January with its first significant order from Korea, and continues with today's announcement of new agreements with Asian distributors who will offer the OSE realtime operating system (RTOS) to Asian businesses developing communications and safety-critical applications. The January Korean order is from Samsung Electronics, which will use the OSE RTOS in its mobile phones program, specifically in conjunction with the Lucent 16K DSP in a new mobile phone. In addition, Enea OSE Systems has signed several agreements with Asian distributors, including Tricom, Ltd. in Korea, Telsys Telecommunication Company, Ltd. in Taiwan, Watertek (Xuanji S&T) Co., Ltd. in Beijing, and Shanghai Litong Shiye Development Co., Ltd. in Shanghai. The embedded systems market has been growing rapidly in Asia, and is predicted to be the fastest-growing segment of the worldwide market over the next three years. "The worldwide market for Embedded Software Development Solutions and Related Services will double from the 1999 total of $ 814 Million to $ 1.6 Billion by 2003 and the Asia/Pacific market share will grow to 20% in that time frame from its current 15% share," said Nozomi Nishimura, Research Analyst, Venture Development Corporation. "It is clear that the Asia/Pacific market is the fastest growing in a rapidly expanding business." Enea OSE Systems began its global expansion roughly two and a half years ago, with the establishment of offices in the United States. Headquartered in Sweden, the company has seven offices in the US, and others in France, Germany and the UK. In addition, there are OSE distributors in the Benelux Countries, Switzerland and Australia. The Asian demand for a high-performance commercial RTOS that supports high-availability applications is on the rise. In addition, a significant number of Asian companies are developing Bluetooth applications. "There is still a wide use of in-house operating systems in Asian telecom companies, and they will benefit from the capabilities that a versatile and widely adopted RTOS such as OSE can provide," said Anders Flodin, VP Business Development, Enea OSE Systems. "The Asian investments into third-generation wireless infrastructure technology will require the most advanced, and capable RTOS support."
