The Nordic financial electricity market functions well
Today NordREG published the report “The Nordic financial electricity market”. It is the first NordREG report that studies the Nordic financial electricity market.
In the report NordREG has described and assessed the efficiency of the Nordic financial electricity market. Data has been collected from Nord Pool ASA and Nasdaq OMX. Representatives from 13 market players were interviewed in the early stages of the study. Towards the end a workshop was held with participation of market players, regulators and financial and competition authorities.
In this study NordREG has found that the general view is that the Nordic financial electricity market functions well and has a good liquidity in the basic products. There is also a general consensus that there is trust in the market. Most market players that were interviewed during the project have concluded that the financial market meets their need for hedging.
NordREG concludes that there is a future need for the Nordic energy regulators and other concerned authorities to increase their understanding of the dynamic environment where the Nordic financial market operates.
