Moretonhampstead Open Homes to showcase greener homes
Moretonhampstead residents interested in saving money on their energy bills can find out how at the energy saving Open Homes event this Saturday, 5thJuly.
The event takes place between 10:00 and 13:00 and will be signposted from Green Hill, Fore Street.
The Moretonhampstead Development Trust, have put together Open Homes with the help of residents who will welcome visitors into their homes to show how different energy saving measures work. Visitors will be able to look around at their own pace or take a guided tour starting at 11:00.
The Trust has been awarded funding to run the Energy Savers initiative and stage a series of energy saving events. These are aimed at helping local residents to reduce their energy bills, especially in light of the Government increasing cash back offers on energy saving measures.
Funding has been made available through the Energy Saving Trust and its Ready for Retrofit programme.
Jon Rattenbury, Ready for Retrofit Manager said: ”Open Home events run by community groups such as the Moretonhampstead Development Trust are great opportunities to find out more about energy saving. When they find out how easy and simple it can be,
many visitors become inspired to make their homes more energy efficient and save money on their bills.”
Open Homes is linked to the Morehampstead Energy Savers project, which offers advice to local residents on free and inexpensive ways to save energy at home.
Chrissy Kebbell, Joint Coordinator for Energy Savers said: “This Energy Savers project is a community group dedicated to offering unbiased, helpful information on reducing energy bills. We hope to achieve greener and warmer homes in Moretonhampstead by offering energy saving advice and information on grants.
“All of the services we provide are free including phone calls, home visits and coffee mornings, as well as energy surgeries and help with funding and filling in forms for local residents. Not only do we aim to lower residents energy bills, but we want to encourage carbon savings.”
The event follows on from the Moretonhampstead Energy Fair held on 28th June which hosted a number of speakers and stands to demonstrate techniques for insulating traditional houses and home energy checks.
The £2.3 million, three year Ready for Retrofit scheme, administered by the Energy Saving Trust, enables social landlords to apply for funding to retrofit renewable heat and electricity measures as well as improve energy efficiency in their homes.
The programme also supports local contractors to make them more competitive as well as local businesses and community groups to help inform people about energy efficiency and microgeneration in the home.

Ready for Retrofit
Ready for Retrofit is a three-year project offering a new funding opportunity for social landlords in the south west of England (except Cornwall) to improve the energy efficiency of their existing stock. The aim of the project is to grow the local supply chain for low carbon building retrofit by stimulating demand and supporting local SME businesses, in order to create a sustainable domestic energy efficiency and microgeneration sector. We are also helping to grow the market locally by working with local authorities and community groups.
