Comprehensive consultancy: purchase, sale and charter of premium yachts

Hamburg/ Nice, 30 April 2015. Engel & Völkers, one of the leading service companies specialised in the brokerage of premium residential property, commercial real estate and yachts, is now brokering exclusive motor and sailing yachts on the French Riviera. The new Yachting office is centrally located in Nice, just minutes from the Promenade des Anglais and the Old Town. “The sale and charter of high-end yachts holds enormous potential in this key yachting hotspot. We intend to significantly develop our market position on the French Riviera with this new opening,” said Bart Boury, CEO of Engel & Völkers Yachting French Riviera.

The office will focus its operations on the purchase, sale and charter of exclusive yachts upwards of 15 metres in length – as well as overseeing new constructions and refits. Engel & Völkers consultancy services also encompass financing, flag registration, yacht management, and the fulfilment of individual wishes such as transport by limousine or private jet to and from boat moorings. “The decision to buy a yacht is almost entirely an emotional one. Superyachts meet highest demands on a luxury lifestyle. We aim to offer our clients services that take care of absolutely everything for them,” said Anissa Mediouni, COO of Engel & Völkers Yachting French Riviera.

Besides purchase and sale, yacht chartering also remain in high demand. “Virtually all prospective buyers charter a yacht before deciding to buy one. Some owners also charter out their yachts to cover running costs,” said Anissa Mediouni. Such costs total approx. 9 to 10 percent of the sale price per annum. Weekly charter fees for a 45-metre yacht in high season are approx. 125,000 euros. This is in addition to ancillary costs for fuel, catering and berthing fees, which total approx. 30 to 35 percent of the charter price.

Trends in new yacht constructions are focusing on ecological sustainability: achieving lower consumption levels without compromising on luxury and performance. “There is a general upturn on the yachting market. For the time being, there are still attractive options opened to wealthy clients looking to buy,” said Bart Boury.

With its international airport and coastal location on the Mediterranean, Nice is known as the gateway to the Côte d’Azur. For owners of premium motor and sailboats, the many marinas on the French Riviera and the surrounding region serve as a point of access to one of the most exclusive yachting playgrounds in the world.
