ECITB Project Management Conference
The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) is bringing together the Oil & Gas community on Wednesday 2nd October, for the ECITB Project Management Conference; Bridging the Knowledge Gap.
With an estimated £250 billion expected to be invested in new projects over the next decade the need for effective project managers has grown in importance in the engineering construction industry.
This conference will bring together North Sea Oil & Gas companies to share good practice, to discuss how to bridge the gap between the theory and knowledge of ‘how to do projects’ and to address the perception that too few projects are delivered on time, meet the customers’ expectations and come in on budget.
“Good or bad project management can determine the success of a project.” David Edwards, Chief Executive, ECITB explained: “Good project management or project control is a key determinant to the success of a project. Everyone and everything has to join up if a project is to succeed in delivering what the customer wants.”
The key principles of project management and project controls are at the very heart of the industry, with a huge demand to deliver complex engineering solutions in challenging environments, on time and to budget.
“Most engineering construction projects are complicated, sophisticated and expensive and there needs to be skilled people who will see both the big picture and the detail to make sure everything goes to plan. The engineering construction industry needs to build more capacity in this key area ensuring people are trained to a high standard.”
The conference will see speakers such as David Hughes, Project Portfolio Director, BG Group and by Chris Bird, Operations Director, Endeavour Energy address issues around effective project management. There will also be a number of workshops run by Europe AMEC, Wood Group PSN, Petrofac Facilities Management, WorleyParsons and Technip UK Ltd.
David Edwards said: “Working together we can bridge the knowledge gap and focus on addressing the need for more project managers in North Sea Oil & Gas. This conference is a step forward on that journey.”
The recent Oil & Gas Skills report, highlighted project management as one of the five critical disciplines facing major skills shortages. The ECITB, in consultation with industry experts, has enhanced its apprenticeships, project management and project control programmes, to address this issue and to ensure that all areas of projects are covered.
All of the ECITB’s training and qualifications are based on the Project Management National Occupational Standards (NOS), developed in association with the Association for Project Management (APM), Project Management Institute (PMI) and Accrediting Professional Managers Globally.
