Last week, the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) officially launched its new membership benefit; Talent Retention Solutions (TRS) to its Board Members. This is part of ECITB’s on-going strategy to attract, develop and qualify people with the skills needed to grow the engineering construction industry.

TRS for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) Careers is the first dedicated, sector specific, not for profit, UK wide platform of its kind. With over 800 jobs already registered on the system, TRS supports the recruitment, redeployment and the retention of talent in the UK AME sector. It aims to enhance the skills bases and maintain a pipeline of key skills available within the engineering construction industry and the UK economy.

The ECITB are offering TRS as a member benefit for an initial twelve month trial period to pilot and evaluate the system. There are already sixteen member companies registered on the system including, Sellafield Ltd, Babcock International Group, Flour Ltd and Petrofac Facilities Management.

David Edwards, ECITB Chief Executive said: “The ECITB has fully embraced and integrated TRS as an additional means of addressing the skills issues concerning many of our employers. The engineering construction industry is growing and the ECITB is working towards increasing the number of skilled workers. TRS is an invaluable tool for employers providing them with access to an instant pool of talented and ‘ready-to-go’ skilled engineers.”

TRS is supported by major sponsors, including Siemens, EDF Energy, Rolls Royce, Nissan, Airbus and BAE Systems. It is a tool that will benefit engineering companies and will help to retain talented engineers currently working within the engineering construction industry.

David Edwards continued: “The basic principles of TRS are simple: Fundamentally, it is an online recruitment tool which will match vacancies with available engineers. Capturing talent via this accessible portal will benefit our employers and the industry as a whole.”

Richard Smith, Engagement Director, Talent Retention Solution attended the ECITB board meeting to present TRS, and said:We focus on retaining skills which otherwise might be lost to the sector and economy. This includes the proactive redeployment of people “at risk” of redundancy, supporting people into new jobs, retaining graduates and apprentices not immediately recruited, and retaining experienced people too.

“The employer sponsors are taking forward this policy about referring and retaining people not immediately recruited to register on TRS; this way we retain and grow our talent base as a matter of routine practice, which becomes immediately visible to employers on the system across the industry.”

Once registered, TRS allows employers to advertise their company vacancies and review the details of individuals who are seeking employment. Employers are able to use TRS to communicate directly with people regarding employment opportunities and can also use the tool to refer candidates to other employers, if they are unable to offer the candidate an opportunity at the time.

TRS was initially developed at the request of Rt Hon, Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills to support the deployment of defence employees and companies who are recruiting. It has since been developed as a tool for all engineers seeking employment.
