Power Your Future
ECITB Launch 2014 Apprentice Recruitment Campaign
The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) is on a mission to find young talented students to be a part of the UK’s energy revolution in 2014. Young people are able to power their future and apply for an ECITB apprenticeship from Monday 3rd February by logging on to the ECITB website http://www.ecitb.org.uk and clicking on the ‘apply now’ button.
David Edwards, Chief Executive, ECITB said: “The engineering construction industry is in a position to be able to offer exciting and well paid careers to young people. Latest manpower figures indicate a need for 42,000 engineers, technicians and skilled tradespersons to enter the industry over the next ten years and it is critical that we raise awareness of these career opportunities available to young people.”
The ECITB offers a range of apprenticeship opportunities with top engineering construction companies across the UK in 14 disciplines; Design & Draughting; Electrical Maintenance; Instrument & Controls Maintenance; Electrical Installation; Mechanical Maintenance; Mechanical Fitting; Instrument Pipefitting (Small Bore Tubing); Non Destructive Testing; Plating; Pipefitting; Steel Erecting; Project Control; Welding; and Moving Loads.
For young people preferring vocational training an ECITB apprenticeship offers the perfect route into the industry, providing off-the-job-learning followed by two to three years of work-based experience, all with the support of an industry employer. There are 400 member companies from across the engineering construction industry seeking to expand and recruit up to 800 advanced apprentices this year, in partnership with the ECITB.
The engineering construction industry is one of the fastest growing industries and is at the heart of the UK’s energy revolution. There are boundless opportunities for young people to have a long and successful career in this prospering industry which includes exciting processing and power generating sectors, such as Nuclear, Renewables, Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Oil & Gas and many more that facilitate modern living.
“A career in engineering construction is not what young people typically imagine. It requires highly skilled individuals to design, project manage, install, test, operate and maintain the large scale infrastructures used to power the UK and provide us with everyday essentials from clean water to bricks and cement.” said David Edwards.
The ECITB has statutory responsibility for the training of the UK’s engineering workforce and development of qualifications. It invests £10m annually to support 2200 apprentices in the UK to develop those valuable skills needed to drive the economy. Over the next four years the organisation will invest at least £100m into the delivery of apprenticeships, training programmes and the development of qualifications for the industry.
