350 senior engineer vacancies were up for grabs at a recruitment event supported by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) held by the global engineering firm Jacobs Engineering Group inc. at Middlesbrough F.C Riverside stadium yesterday.  Jacobs have 350 vacancies across all sectors of the business including; Piping & Mechanical, Project Controls and Project Management.

Don Atkinson the ECITB’s Regional Account Manager for the North East said: “There are 2.58 million unemployed people in the UK but we are seeing unprecedented growth and investment in the engineering construction industry - the government recently announced a guaranteed £40 billion in 500 projects for the nations’ infrastructure.  Now the government has taken this step more and more engineering construction companies will be recruiting, it is an exciting time for the industry.

Projections show that the UK will need 40,000 more skilled people by 2020.  It’s our role to work with organisations like Jacobs to attract, develop and qualify people for a career in the engineering construction industry.  The ECITB invests about £20 million each year supporting apprentices, graduates and up-skilling the existing workforce.”
