Autum/winter events programme gives year-round appeal to English Heritage in the West Midlands

The summer months may have been somewhat of a damp squib weather-wise, but with the promise of a mild autumn on the horizon, English Heritage has launched a fun-packed programme of events throughout the West Midlands to take visitors through the winter months.

“Whilst spring and summer months play host to our grand blockbuster re-enactment events like the Knights’ Tournament at Kenilworth Castle, over the autumn and winter, we can look at smaller events that give visitors a far more intimate experience of these superb historical sites,” says regional events manager, Charlie Evans. “For example, we’ve introduced nights when people can stay over in Leicester’s Gatehouse, and a number of nail-biting after-dark ghost tours at Kenilworth Castle, special behind-the-scenes tours at Witley Court and exclusive expert-led tours at Wroxeter Roman City.”

Highlights of the autumn/winter programme include:

  • Family Sleepovers at Kenilworth Castle on 5 October and 1 March, with an ‘indoor camping’ experience inside Leicester’s Gatehouse, including an evening meal, ghost tour, storytelling and breakfast.
  • Christmas Music: Past & Present at Kenilworth Castle (15 & 16 December) is a fantastic way of getting into the Christmas mood with festive tunes from the 15thto the 20thcentury.
  • A Spring Photowalk at Goodrich Castle (Friday 8 March 2013) in Herefordshire with leading landscape photographer, Nick Meers.
  • A Watercolour Workshop at Stokesay Castle (Friday 15 March 2013), learning about watercolour techniques with the bijou fortified manor house providing the perfect subject for art.
  • Guided tours take place every Friday at Kenilworth Castle until 26 October.
