Daily opening resumes for Stokesay Castle's Easter fun

Chocolate bunnies will take centre stage at Stokesay Castle, near Ludlow, over the Easter weekend, when the English Heritage site celebrates a return to its summer daily opening with a family fun trail, running from Good Friday to Easter Monday (6-9 April 2012).

In a trail that is bound to delight young visitors, families will be challenged to uncover all of the eggs that have been hidden around the castle’s grounds and moat by the Easter bunny, recording the letter written on each to help decode a secret message. Everyone who completes the trail will receive a delicious Lindt egg as a reward!

Stokesay Castle reopens daily from 31 March 2012 to co-incide with the start of the school Easter holidays and the launch of English Heritage’s 2012 visitor season. This year, Shropshire’s jewel of a castle will welcome a host of events taking place in the school holidays, as well as its most colourful year yet, thanks to its wonderfully planned gardens, which promise a riot of pink, yellow and red from April through to September.

“Our events are always popular, but to say this is one of the smallest castles in the country, there’s still plenty to see and do in and around the fortified walls,” comments area manager, Mark Badger. “Our gardeners work extremely hard to keep the gardens looking stunning, and the castle itself has many original features which have been well maintained and preserved since they were installed, including the panelling added to the house in 1641 – the same time that the gatehouse was built – making Stokesay ideal for young castle enthusiasts and experienced historians alike.”

Stokesay Castle is open daily from 1 April from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Admission prices are £6.00 for adults, £5.40 for concessions, £3.60 for children or £15.60 for a family ticket (two adults and up to three children).   English Heritage members get in free.

Stokesay Castle is located seven miles outside Ludlow off the A49, near Craven Arms.
