Festive fun at Stokesay Castle

Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 December 2012

There’s a full weekend of festive fun at Stokesay Castle on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 December, with a fun reindeer trail for children, and a fantastic range of unusual gift ideas in the shop.

The seasonal trail will see a series of model reindeer concealed around the castle’s grounds – families following the trail around the site will have to decode a secret password that will entitle them to a small prize from Stokesay Castle’s shop.

“This is the weekend when many families start dressing their house with a tree and decorations, so what better way to celebrate than by escaping the hustle and bustle of the high street and enjoying a fun family day out at a beautiful historic property,” says site manager, Kate Potter. “We even had a new range of unusual Christmas gifts in our shop, so anyone worrying about not getting their shopping done can kill two birds with one stone!”

Indeed, the giftshop stocks a wide selection of beautifully-packaged jams, mustards and chutneys including new Christmas Pickles and Boxing Day Chutney, priced from £2.75 to £3.50. Unusual seasonal tipples included Christmas Mead, priced at £8.99, Mulled Berry Punch at £4.99, and for the ultimate indulgence, Chase Marmalade Vodka for £35.00 – ideal for a Christmas Day ‘breakfast martini’. For the man who has (almost) everything, unusual gift ideas include replica medieval armour, whilst mums will love the replica medieval tapestries. Children will also love the castle-themed dressing up costumes, from princess tiaras (£3.50) to a sword and shield set for £7.99.

Stokesay Castle is located seven miles outside Ludlow off the A49. The site remains open every weekend throughout the winter from 10.00am to 4.00pm, with admission prices of £6.00 for adults, £5.40 for concessions and just £3.60 for children. A family ticket (two adults and up to three children) is available for £15.60, and English Heritage members get in free.
