Mid-winter Ghost Tour - Friday 18 January 2013

Valentines Ghost Tour – Friday 15 February 2013

When darkness falls and the imagination takes over, walking around a ruined castle can become a nerve-wracking experience, but nowhere more so than at Kenilworth Castle this New Year, when the spookiness of the site combines with terrifying tales for two unforgettable nights of spine-tingling tours!

When the staff have all gone home and the site is almost deserted, story-tellers from ‘Take a Walk on the Dark Side’ invite visitors to join them for an after-dark tour of the castle ruins, stopping off at various points inside and out to share spooky stories. The tour on 18 January highlights how even on the coldest and darkest of winter nights, a frightfully-good ghost story can still send tingles up and down the spine, whilst the Valentines Tour on Friday 15 February examines stories of love, obsession and loss – the perfect antidote to the saccharine sweetness of St Valentine’s Day!

“This is not a light-hearted evening for families to enjoy, but rather an evening suited to adults with nerves of steel – whilst we are hoping that each tour will be full at the start, it will be interesting to see how many are brave enough to stay for the full visit,” comments property manager, Holly Woodward. “Each time we host one of these events, we think that we can’t make it any scarier, but the specialist tour team ensure that the frights never stop!”

The tours take place at 7.00pm and 8.00pm on each evening, with each tour lasting around 45 minutes. Tickets are only available to over 16s and cost £20.00 for adults, reduced to £16 for English Heritage members. Places should be pre-booked by calling 0870 333 1183.

Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden itself remains open every weekend throughout the winter from 10.00am to 4.00pm. For more details, please visit www.english-heritage.org.uk/kenilworth
