Giant legend inspires Stokesay Castle's half term fun

Two brothers, a lost key and buried gold are providing the inspiration for half term fun atStokesayCastle, nearLudlow, where English Heritage will be appealing for help from young treasure hunters with their special family trail!

Throughout the half term week (11 – 19 February), children will have to decode a series of clues to see if they can help find the lost treasure of Stokesay, which is said to be guarded by a giant raven! The trail will take them around the grounds of the fortified manor house in search of cryptic rhymes that could earn them a prize certificate!

“An old local legend tells of a pair of giant brothers who lived either side of the valley, and who kept their treasure secure withinStokesayCastle. There was only one key to the treasure chest, so when either brother wanted to see it, the other would have to throw the key across the valley. On one occasion, the brother’s aim was not as good as it could have been, and the key was lost – never to be seen again! Without the key to unlock the chest, it has lain hidden in Stokesay’s vaults ever since!” explains site manager, Kate Potter..

The trail runs all day each day during the half term break.StokesayCastlewill be open daily from10.00amto4.00pmfrom Saturday 11 to Sunday 19 February.
