Nottingham family become Kenilworth royalty!

A family from Nottingham recently had a royally good experience when they were crowned King, Queen and Princess of Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire, as part of a summer competition organised by English Heritage.

The family won a Facebook competition which saw them join the recent Knights Tournament in full medieval costume as the resident King, Queen and Princess of Kenilworth Castle!  As well as having ring-side seats for the combat events, they were also invited to present the prizes to the winners of the Knights Tournament, a competition which ran over the last few months at English Heritage sites around the country.

Ti Colluney became Queen, wearing a full length silk dress, whilst her husband, King Sean, looked resplendent in regal purple velvet with a fur trim.  Princess Victoria, aged 13, wore a terracotta silk dress with an embroidered gold overdress.  Crowns added an extra medieval finishing touch to each of the outfits, befitting their new Royal roles!

“It has been quite a long time since a member of the royal family watched over a medieval tournament at Kenilworth Castle, but the Colluney family filled the role fantastically well, and played along with the roles brilliantly throughout the day,” comments Kenilworth Castle’s property manager, Holly Woodward.

“I entered this competition primarily for my daughter, Victoria – for her, it was a dream come true,” says ‘Queen’ Ti Colluney.  “Everyone was so friendly, and we really enjoyed having a VIP tour of the Castle – and the costumes were awesome, but we did need some help figuring out how to get one or two items on!  I think Victoria’s dream now is to be the ‘fair maiden’ that a pair of knights fight over!”

The winning family also receive ‘the freedom of Kenilworth Castle’ for a year!

Kenilworth Castle is open daily from 10.00am to 5.00pm until 4 November, and then weekends from 10.00am to 4.00pm throughout the winter months.  Admission prices are £8.20 for adults, £7.40 for concessions and £4.90 for children, or £21.30 for a family ticket (two adults and up to three children).  Free guided tours run every Friday until 26th October  at 11.00am and 3.00pm.
