Spring in the air for Goodrich Castle's Easter fun

With the school Easter holidays marking the daily opening of Goodrich Castle, near Ross on Wye, visitors over the Easter weekend can enjoy an especially sweet visit when they complete the historic site’s Easter Family Fun Trail.

The trail runs over the Easter weekend, from Friday 6 April to Easter Monday 9 April, with children challenged to hunt around the site for a series of model eggs, left behind by the Easter bunny as he went about his deliveries. Each egg features a letter, and participants have to collect all letters and decode a secret password to unlock a tasty treat: a Lindt chocolate bunny.

The trail also encourages visitors to explore different areas of the site, from the defensive moat – thankfully now dry – to the top of the Norman keep, the oldest part of the castle constructed in the mid-12th century.

“Easter is a season of renewal, and as you stand at the top of the keep looking out over the Wye Valley, you can see it in action, as the countryside changes from the bleak months of winter into vibrant shades of green as far as the eye can see,” comments Goodrich Castle’s site manager, Margaret Smithett.

Goodrich Castle is open daily from 1 April from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Admission prices are £6.00 for adults, £5.40 for concessions, £3.60 for children or £15.60 for a family ticket (two adults and up to three children).   English Heritage members get in free.

Goodrich Castle is located five miles south of Ross-on-Wye off the A40.
